With the coming of anything new, change has to take place, and if we are
told we will be getting some kind of new phone cables then we have to go through
the change. The change being, having pathways dug up all over the place and then
being left unattended for a few weeks with stone, rock and road hazards as the
order of the day. Word has it that there are 2 separate companies involved in
this process, one digging up and laying the cables and one (the NMBM) has the
honour of repairing the damage, and here-in lies the problem. Might just take a
while to sort this one out?
On a unhappy note, a Land-Rover was stolen in Edward St earlier this week
at around 7am. Word has it that this type of theft is linked to larger
syndicates or gangs that steal 'on order' and are highly qualified in their
trade. Very common on the order list are Toyota's and Mazda's that are mainly
used for parts but nowadays with the influx of cons for all over the world it
must be a thriving business. Richmond Hill is an area with mainly on street
parking and thanks to all the role players in the security game ie. Cops, Atlas,
ADT, patrollers and alert residents we have one of the lowest crime rates in the
metro.
Walk-a-louts are still a concern during the day, this keeps i.Patrol &
co pretty busy. New faces are daily being noted, and when questioned their is
actually no reason at all for them to be where they are, but, its a free country
they say. A lift out of town is also free, and most agree. Continual harassment
of the unwanted is the only way to keep them at bay.
As far as the SRA goes;
We are now about 1/3 of the way to the target and the 1st July is drawing
nearer. I have been anticipating a tsunami of signed consent forms to hit the
post office, splashing over the e.mail and post box routes as well but so far
the effects have only been mild. A big surge of responses did come from the post
office yes, but they were all addressed "return to sender", nobody home. Not
sure how they pat rates and taxes, but that's just how it is.
We now have to come up with a plan of getting 500 odd forms in over the
next couple of weeks. A suggestion has been made to have a walk-a-bout over the
week-end collecting forms. A lot of them are still attached to the fridge door
where they are of little use and if we want to make this project work in our
area, then WE must.
I will be around on Sat am doing clean-up projects but am quite happy to
let the work go on by itself and meet up with a few residents and "walk the
talk" - any suggestions welcome but in the interim we will be kicking off from
the open area in front of Fathers House in Stanley St at around 10am (time and
dress code to be confirmed)
All and Everybody welcome, no experience needed, just you........!
See you there
