Pre-Weekend Update

A bit of pre-weekend news...

In the early hours of this morning a KIA utility van was stolen in Irvine St, even though it had a tough gorilla lock on gremlins managed to get away without being heard or seen. While steering locks are sometimes a good deterrent they are not un-removable, so if you think your car might be vulnerable fit a gear-lock as well because nowadays we have to make it as difficult as possible for the thieves to get it away.

Yesterday afternoon a young girl was robbed in Lutman Street of a cell phone.

i.Patrol spotted 3 youths running towards Central and questioned them, they replied that they were off to a soup kitchen, which sounded fair, but just then the call came through of a girl being robbed. I chased after them down Elliott St and but peak traffic made any apprehension difficult as I got caught in the down flow. A municipal bakkie however noticed the commotion and managed to tackle 2 of the suspects in the Central area and they were taken into custody.

This once again proves the success and effectiveness of the crime forum phone;
- - Alert restaurant owner becomes aware of person being robbed
- - Immediately phones the forum phone
- - i.Patrol one block away and
- - responds in time to make a difference
- - citizens arrest made and
- - suspects handed over to Humewood cops already on the scene
- - Game over.
Bear in mind that we as residents/neighbourhood watch members are only the link between the community and the police but it’s often the case that action needs to be taken immediately in order to effect certain outcomes and it’s this quick response that makes the difference.

The administrative side of the forum has taken a quantum leap into the world of Blogging and as of this email we will all be able to air our views and discuss important community issues ‘electronically’ via the following link….Richmond Hill Neighbourhood Watch Blog

Join up as member and as we go along we can add stories, photo’s etc and it’s a great way to get complaints noticed, and also possibly even problems sorted out. The SRA would definitely make a good topic of discussion to start with as the there have been many for’s but some good points have also been raised by the few objectors.

Till later, have a good weekend and be alert.
Regards
Alan
